My Training

A Wealth of Wisdom, Decades of Experience

I started my holistic education over three decades ago in the Macrobiotic movement with Aveline and Michio Kushi and the world renowned Kushi Institute of Boston. I studied Eastern Philosophy, food as medicine, the invisible forces of “chi”, traditional healing practices and lifestyle recommendations – all as interwoven disciplines that shape and define our health.

The Kushis were the first to import a whole new vocabulary of whole foods in America with the first whole foods importer and wholesaler, Erewhon, and thus began the the first wave of natural food stores in America. East West Centers for Macrobiotic Study were strung up and down major cities of the East Coast. I lived and apprenticed at the East West Center of Washington, DC. My day to day life and everyday practices at home and food preparation were immersed in traditional practices from hundreds of years ago.

I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture and Five Elements Theory, home crafting of ancient artisanal foods, and more. My time there left rich and indelible impressions that have inspired my life ever since. Instruction in living on a balanced plant based diet, and eating seasonally with the beauty and poetry of each season, is a legacy I carry on. Leaders and mentors in this important movement have influenced and directed my passions lifelong.

I was one of the first activists working with the original Semple Street Coop of Pittsburgh, PA, which is still thriving 30 years later. I debuted my passion for public health education teaching the first natural foods demos and classes at the North Hills Public Library in my neighborhood. My sister and I were the first organic chefs in Pittsburgh, CA at the innovative Nexus Cafe.

Since then, I’ve been a professional and private chef, moved to CA 30 years ago, started my own consulting practice, acquired numerous certifications in the healing arts, and have a private healing arts practice in Marin County, CA. I’ve worked with thousands of clients nationally and train students from around the world.

I’ve spent decades in the human potential movement, learning interpersonal communication, human awareness techniques, and meditation, movement and massage.

I’ve studied leading dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts, including Tony Robbins, world renowned personal performance coach, Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. Neal Bernard, Founder of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; David Wolfe, raw foods and superfoods expert, Julia Ross, MA, MFT, sugar addiction/recovery expert, and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.

My education has equipped me with integrative awareness, intuitive skills, a wealth of resources and extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health.
